The poem is by J.R.Jones.
[With thanks to Gomer Press for their kind permission to use the poem.]

Listen starting after 02:57 first perhaps? :-)
Classical Concertina Toccata - This Toccata is a seriously virtuosic piece starting in fairly modern style and then looking back (possibly to Schumann) and ending in the present with a flourish.
It is a harder piece to get into than most of my other work and will probably need a few ‘listens’ before it can be fully appreciated, but I believe it is worth it to feel the magic of this piece. (…or maybe not! Let me know!)
My concertina pieces were written as a result of being commissioned for a piece by the International Concertina Society to mark the centenary of Wheatstone's invention of the instrument.
Please have a listen and comment…. Don’t be afraid to be harsh! :-)
I had to use a sampled concertina (with apologies to the purists) I think it does sound sufficiently close to the real thing to provide a musical result

Taken from my new cd – Cantilena … which is of course crackle and pop free!
"Cariwch," medd Dafydd, "fy nhelyn i mi,
Ceisiaf cyn marw roi tôn arni hi.
Codwch fy nwylawi gyrhaedd y tant;
Duw a'ch bendithio fy ngweddw a'm plant!"
"Neithiwr mi glywais lais angel fel hyn:
'Dafydd, tyrd adref, a chwarae trwy'r glyn!'
Delyn fy mebyd, ffarwel i dy dant!
Duw a'ch bendithio fy ngweddw a'm plant!"
"Bring me my harp," was David's sad sigh,
"I would play one more tune before I die.
Help me, dear wife, put the hands to the strings,
I wish my loved ones the blessing God brings."
"Last night an angel called with heaven's breath:
David, play, and come through the gates of death!
Farewell, faithful harp, farewell to your strings,
I wish my loved ones the blessing God brings."
(Original Welsh by Ceiriog Hughes)

The poem/song is by James Thompson who is better known for the poem that became 'Rule Britannia'
TO AMANDA.
Unless with my Amanda bless'd,
In vain I twine the woodbine bower;
Unless to deck her sweeter breast,
In vain I rear the breathing flower.
Awaken'd by the genial year,
In vain the birds around me sing ;
In vain the freshening fields appear
Without my love there is no Spring.
